Gender Predictor: Boy or Girl?

Two fun ways to guess your baby’s gender in seconds — the ancient Chinese Gender Chart or the old wives’ tales quiz.

The traditional Chinese Gender Chart predicts boy or girl from the mother’s age and the month of conception. Enter both to see your prediction.

Roughly 2 weeks after your last period, or ~266 days before your due date.

What is a gender predictor?

A gender predictor is a fun way to guess whether you’re having a boy or a girl before an ultrasound confirms it. The two most popular methods are the Chinese Gender Chart — a centuries-old table based on the mother’s age and the month of conception — and old wives’ tales, the folklore signs like cravings, how you’re carrying, and morning sickness.

Neither is scientific. Both land around 50/50 — the same odds as a coin flip. But guessing is half the fun of pregnancy, and it’s the perfect warm-up for the real reveal.

How the Chinese Gender Chart works

The traditional Chinese Gender Chart cross-references the mother’s lunar age at conception (18–45) with the lunar month the baby was conceived. Each cell of the chart predicts either a boy or a girl.

Our calculator uses the widely-used simplified method: your Chinese (lunar) age is roughly your age plus one, and the conception month comes from the date you enter. Legend says the original chart was buried in a royal tomb near Beijing over 700 years ago — take it with a smile.

Gender predictor FAQ

Is the Chinese gender predictor accurate?

No — it’s traditional folklore with about 50% accuracy, the same as guessing. It’s meant for fun, not for medical or planning decisions.

When can I know my baby’s gender for sure?

A NIPT blood test can determine sex from around 10 weeks, and the anatomy ultrasound confirms it around 18–20 weeks. Those are the only reliable methods.

What are old wives’ tales for gender?

Folklore signs people use to guess boy or girl — sweet vs. salty cravings, carrying high vs. low, skin breakouts, the baby’s heart rate, and the ring-on-a-string test. Fun, but not science.
